Parser Error Message: Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'

Error Message

When configuring the ArcGIS Web Adaptor on the configuration web page after installing the web adaptor, the following error is returned:

Parser Error Message: Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'

Cause

The assigned .NET Framework for the web adaptor application pool is not the proper version. For more information on the proper version of .NET Framework, refer to the system requirement of ArcGIS Web Adaptor in their respective version.

For ArcGIS Web Adaptor 10.7, Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 or later is required to install ArcGIS Web Adaptor.

Solution or Workaround

Assign the proper .NET Framework version in the application pool of the web adaptor by following the steps described below:

Before proceeding with the steps below, ensure the proper .NET Framework version is installed on the machine.

1. Open the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager on the machine with the web adaptor.
2. Under the Connections list, expand the server and click Applications Pools. Under Application Pools, the assigned .NET Framework of the web adaptor is shown in the .NET Framework Version column.

3. If the version is incorrect, right-click the web adaptor and click Basic Settings.
4. In the Edit Application Pool dialog box, select the correct version of .NET Framework for the web adaptor from the drop-down. Click OK. Once the ArcGISWebAdaptorAppPool is set to the proper version of .NET Framework, ensure the Status of the application pool is set to Started.

5. Navigate to the web adaptor configuration web page, and configure normally.
