ERROR
When a boundary or geography layer is published in a portal using the Publish Boundaries tool and configured in Insights for ArcGIS, the following error message may be returned in Insights for ArcGIS:
Error: No geographies are available. Please contact the Portal administrator.
The REST directory shows that the service definition file is published. However, the boundary layer is missing from the Geographies tab in Insights for ArcGIS.
This error occurs due to the portal's default region differing from the boundary layer's region. By default, the portal is not specified to any region, hence the extent for new maps display the entire world. However, when the portal website is configured to default to a specific region of the world, the portal uses the same region for the subsequent layers.
For example, when publishing a boundary layer in the United States (US) with the portal region set to Puerto Rico (PR), although the service definition file is published, Insights for ArcGIS does not recognize the geographies in the region.
To resolve this error, ensure that the portal's default region is similar to the boundary layer's region. If the portal's default region differs from the boundary layer's region, change the portal's region. For more information, refer to Configuring units and region.
