Error: MIFSHAPE Error: Corrupt

Why do I receive the following error message while trying to convert a line MIF file?

Error: Corrupt "count" field.

0 LINE features converted.

Answer:

The MIF files was not created correctly.

Open the MIF file using a DOS editor, such as Wordpad or Notepad, and edit lines 10 and 11. You might find that line 10 states only "PLine" and that line 11 is the ID number for the line. Line 10 should read "PLine 105" and line 11 can be deleted.
