Error: java.io.IOException: SDE v8.1 Beta2 Java Api Requires Instance in Format 'port:NNNN

Error Message

** Internal Publish Only!! **I can't connect to ArcSDE. The error message in the status bar says: "java.io.IOException: SDE v8.1 beta2 Java api requires instance in format 'port:NNNN'"

Cause

Typing the name of an ArcSDE instance is no longer supported due to security concerns.

Solution or Workaround

The instance must be specified by typing "port:<TCP port number>". For example, you would type port:5151 instead of esri_arcsde81.
