ERROR

"Invalid folder location. Unable to access this location" when attempting to register a Microsoft Azure Cloud Store as a Big Data File Share

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Error Message

If an Microsoft Azure Cloud Store with "Secure transfer required" enabled is registered as a Big Data File Share, an error appears in the Register Big Data File Share window with the following error message:

Error:
Invalid folder location. Unable to access this location.
"Invalid folder location, Unable to access this location."

Cause

This is a known issue with ArcGIS GeoAnalytics Server 10.6. Other versions are not affected.

When a Microsoft Azure storage account is configured such that “Secure transfer required” is enabled, the storage account rejects connections that use HTTP. Because ArcGIS GeoAnalytics Server 10.6 uses HTTP to access data in Azure, it is unable to use storage accounts that have “Secure transfer required” enabled.

Solution or Workaround

Disable “Secure transfer required” in the settings for the Microsoft Azure storage account being registered as a Big Data File Share. For more information, please read Require secure transfer in Azure Storage.
