Internal error 2753.AppLockMgr.exe. Installation ended prematurely because of an error

Error Message

When installing ArcGIS ArcInfo Workstation, the following error is displayed:"Internal error 2753.AppLockMgr.exe. Installation ended prematurely because of an error."

Cause

The install directory location has a previous version of software files still there.

Solution or Workaround

1. Cancel out of the current ArcInfo Workstation install.
2. Make sure the installation location where installing is clean of files, arcexe9x, etc. ArcInfo Workstation is installed to c:\arcgis9x by default. Delete this folder.
3. Install ArcInfo Workstation 9.2.
