Error Message

When attempting to create a story by clicking the ‘New story’ option in ArcGIS StoryMaps, the following error message is returned, and the ArcGIS StoryMaps icon is unavailable in the ArcGIS Online app launcher, as shown in the images below:

ArcGIS StoryMaps is unavailable in the ArcGIS Online app launcher.

Cause

This issue occurs when the organization member’s default role or custom role has insufficient privileges to create content in ArcGIS Online.

Solution or Workaround

Note:
Only an organization's administrator can perform the following workflows.

Update the member’s default role or custom role to enable the privilege to create content.

• Change the member’s role to a default role such as User, Publisher, or Administrator, with the privilege to create content. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Change member roles for more information.
• Update the member’s custom role to enable the Create, update, and delete option in the General privileges settings. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Configure member roles for more information.
