Error: FATAL ERROR LINK. 1290: UNKNOWN COMMAND SWITCH

Solution or Workaround

Summary

This error occurs when typing COMMAND or COMMANDS at the Arc prompt:

FATAL ERROR LINK. 1290: UNKNOWN COMMAND SWITCH - HEON

Cause

The batch file L.BAT or the executable file L.EXE are conflicting with PC ARC/INFO's batch routines within the COMMAND.BAT and COMMANDS.BAT files.

Solution

Locate the offending L.BAT or L.EXE files and rename them to something else.

Note:
The L.BAT file and L.EXE files are used in Fortran programming.

Note:
A similar problem is known to have occurred with the existence of W.BAT and W.EXE files.
