Error: Failed to Update Basemap, Selected Basemap is Not Supported at This Time

Error Message

Attempting to add or edit a basemap in ArcGIS Pro fails, returning the following error message:

Failed to update basemap, selected basemap is not supported at this time.

Cause

The ArcGIS Online user subscription account is suspended due to insufficient credits in the account.

Solution or Workaround

To resolve the issue, check the number of available credits using the ArcGIS Online account status dashboard, and contact the user account customer service representative to purchase new ArcGIS Online credits.

Alternatively, add the basemap service to ArcGIS Pro using a URL address.

In ArcGIS Pro, on the Map tab, navigate to Add Data.
Click Data From Path.
In the Add Data From Path window, in the Path section, type the following URL address:

https://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Imagery/MapServer

Click Add.

The alternative workaround only adds or changes a basemap in an ArcGIS Pro session if the user is not signed in. A user must have sufficient ArcGIS Online credits for specific transactions, storage, and analytics across ArcGIS platforms. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Understand credits for more information.
