Error Message
Attempts to save changes in the sharing settings of the survey form in the ArcGIS Survey123 website fail, and return the following error message:
Error:
Failed to save. Cannot read property 'success' of undefined.
Cause
The error occurs when the content size in the media folder of the survey is larger than 10 MB.
Note:
The media folder is located in C:\Users\<user>\ArcGIS\My Survey Designs\<survey id>\media.
Solution or Workaround
It is possible to resolve the error by removing some files from the media folder so it does not exceed 10 MB. However, these files may be necessary and cannot be removed. In this case, use one of the methods below.
In new surveys
- Design a new survey without adding the large sized files in the media folder, and publish the survey.
- Open the survey form in the ArcGIS Survey123 website, and click the Collaborate tab.
- In the Share survey section, make the necessary changes to the sharing settings. Click Save.
- Copy the large sized files to the media folder.
- Republish the survey from ArcGIS Survey123 Connect.
With existing survey forms
Update an existing survey
- Move the large sized files from the media folder to a different location.
- Republish the survey.
- Open the survey form in the ArcGIS Survey123 website, and click the Collaborate tab.
- In the Share survey section, make the necessary changes to the sharing settings. Click Save.
- Move the files back to the media folder.
- Republish the survey from ArcGIS Survey123 Connect.
Create a new survey
- Create a copy of the existing survey in ArcGIS Survey123 Connect. Refer to ArcGIS Survey123: Copy or delete a survey for more information.
- Move the large sized files from the media folder to a different location.
- On the Settings tab of the XLS form of the survey, add the form ID and submission URL. The form ID is the layer name in the hosted feature service, and the submission URL is https://www.arcgis.com/sharing/rest/content/items/<itemID>. This ensures new submissions are directed to the original hosted feature layer, and existing submissions are retained.
Note:
Alternatively, export the existing submissions from the original hosted feature layer as a file geodatabase (FGDB), and append the existing data to the hosted feature layer of the new survey. Refer to How To: Append data to a Survey123 for ArcGIS survey from an existing survey with related tables for more information.
- Publish the survey.
