Error Message

After configuring ArcGIS Web Adaptor with Portal for ArcGIS, Portal for ArcGIS cannot be accessed, and the following error message is returned:

Failed to get administrator token from Portal. Please verify that the Portal URL specified can be accessed successfully.

The error message returned when attempting to install ArcGIS Web Adaptor

Cause

  • ArcGIS Web Adaptor is configured using a domain name service (DNS) instead of a fully qualified domain name (FQDN). Only FQDNs must be used when configuring ArcGIS Web Adaptor with Portal for ArcGIS.
  • An invalid FQDN portal URL or the portal URL of a different machine is specified when configuring the ArcGIS Web Adaptor setup. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: Domain name service and fully qualified domain name requirements for more information.

Solution or Workaround

Use either one of the following workarounds to resolve this issue.

Configure ArcGIS Web Adaptor with Portal for ArcGIS using an FQDN with the port number included

Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: Configure ArcGIS Web Adaptor from the configuration web page for the steps to complete this. The format of the FQDN used in the Web Adaptor configuration page is as follows:

portal.domain.com:7443

Reinstall and configure ArcGIS Web Adaptor

  1. Uninstall ArcGIS Web Adaptor. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: Uninstalling ArcGIS Web Adaptor for the steps to do so.
  2. Install ArcGIS Web Adaptor. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: Installing ArcGIS Web Adaptor for the steps to do so.
  3. Configure ArcGIS Web Adaptor. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: Configure ArcGIS Web Adaptor for the steps to do so.
