Last Published: April 27, 2022

Error Message

When attempting to download offline maps in ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Field Maps, the download fails, and the following error messages are returned in the ArcGIS Server Manager logs, and ArcGIS Pro, respectively.

In ArcGIS Server Manager

Error:
Failed to create replica. Multiple layers are referencing a dataset, which is not supported.
The error messaged is returned in ArcGIS Server Manager.

In ArcGIS Pro

Error:
Create Offline Features Error: { Create Offline Features Error for: <layerdatasource> }
The error messaged is returned in ArcGIS Pro.

Cause

The feature service in ArcGIS Server or Portal for ArcGIS contains two or more layers based on the same feature class. Feature services with multiple layers referencing the same feature class cannot be taken offline even though the Enable Sync capabilities are enabled on the item details page. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: Feature service preparation for more information.

Solution or Workaround

Use one of the following solutions to resolve the issue.

  • In ArcGIS Pro, create a feature class for every layer in the map, so there is only one layer referencing the feature class. Republish the map to ArcGIS Server or Portal for ArcGIS.
  • Remove the layer referencing the same feature class and republish the map.
