A new field with data type Big Integer was added to the feature class in ArcGIS Pro, which is not supported in ArcMap 10.8.2. Support for the Big Integer data type was introduced at ArcGIS Pro 3.2.
Deleting the field solves the issue and the feature class can be opened successfully in ArcMap
