Cause

This occurs when invalid characters are specified for the annotation feature class name, such as a name that starts with a number, a name that includes parenthesis, and so forth.

Solution or Workaround

• Specify a valid annotation feature class name. Consult your DBMS documentation for valid table names.
• You may alternatively create a temporary feature class with the desired name in ArcCatalog, before entering the name in ArcMap.
• Additionally, you can programmatically test a name by using the IFieldChecker.ValidateTableName ArcObjects class.
