Error converting XLSForm. Unknown question type '<choice_list_question list_name>'

Error Message

Attempts to edit and update a choice list question such as the select_one list_name, select_multiple list_name and rank list_name type in an XLSForm fail, and return the following error message in ArcGIS Survey123 Connect:

Unknown question type '<choice_list_question list_name>'.

In this example, the select_one question contains a space in its list_name value.

Cause

The choice list question type contains one or more spaces in the list_name value on the survey tab.

Solution or Workaround

To resolve the error, replace the space with an underscore and ensure the list_name value on the survey tab matches the list_name value on the choices tab.

1. Open the XLSForm.
2. In the XLSForm, on the survey tab, in the type column, identify the choice list question that contains spaces in its list_name. In this example, the select_one question's list_name in the type column is 'yes no'.

3. Replace the space with an underscore. In this example, 'yes no' is modified to 'yes_no'. Ensure the list_name in the type column on the survey tab matches the values in the list_name column on the choices tab.

4. Save the XLSForm.
