Error: Cannot Open Graphics Window. Display Device is Not Defined

Solution or Workaround

Summary

Typing DISPLAY 4 in ARCPLOT or ARCEDIT, in the WINDOWS section of PC ARC/INFO, returns this message:

   Cannot open graphics window.  Display device is not defined.

Cause

The DOS executables for ARCPLOT and ARCEDIT are being used instead of the WINDOWS versions of these programs.

Solution

Double-click the SCRMAN icon to startvthe Screen Manager prior to opening any graphics module. Once the screen manager is running you can start any PC ARC/INFO WINDOWS extensions. To start ARCPLOT and ARCEDIT use the commands ARCPLOTW and ARCEDITW, or select their icons from the ARC program group.
