Error Message

When using the Train Deep Learning Model tool, the tool fails with the following error:

"cannot identify image file %r" % (filename if filename else fp)

Cause

This issue occurs because the image chips generated from the Export Training Data for Deep Learning tool includes an input raster in an unsupported format. The Train Deep Learning Model tool only supports 8-bit rasters with three bands.

Solution or Workaround

Use 8-bit rasters with three bands as input for the Export Training Data for Deep Learning tool. To check the raster's properties, follow the steps below.

  1. In ArcGIS Pro, right-click the raster in the Contents or Catalog pane, and click Properties.
  2. In the Layer Properties dialog, click Source and expand Raster Information.
  3. Check the Number of Bands and Pixel Depth.
