Error Message

When creating a double data type field with scale set as 0 in an enterprise geodatabase feature class, and saving the changes in ArcGIS Pro, an error similar to the following is returned:

ERROR 000852: Cannot add field <value> to <value>

The image below shows an example of this.

error returned when adding the double data type field

Cause

Scale is a field property that is only used for float or double data types and represents the number of digits in a number to the right of the decimal point (if positive) or to left if negative (rarely used) and hence it cannot be 0. For example, the number 6764.98 has a scale of 2.

Solution or Workaround

Keep the scale default or increase it from 0 to specify the number of digits after (or before) the decimal point.
