Can’t use this feature layer due to an unknown error

Error Message

When selecting a feature layer in ArcGIS QuickCapture through an ArcGIS Enterprise feature service, the following error is returned:

Can’t use this feature layer due to an unknown error
Please try again. If the error persists, please contact Esri Support.

Cause

• The ‘Allow access to the portal through HTTPS only’ option is disabled in Portal for ArcGIS.
• The ArcGIS URLs are blocked by the Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) policy.
• The ArcGIS URLs are blocked in ArcGIS Enterprise.

Solution or Workaround

Depending on the cause, follow one of the workarounds below.

Enable HTTPS-only communication for the portal

Enable the Allow access to the portal through HTTPS only option in Portal for ArcGIS. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Configure HTTPS for further instructions.

Create URL exceptions in the organization

Contact the IT department to create URL exceptions in the organization for the following URLs:

https://www.arcgis.com

https://www.arcgis.com/apps/quickcapture

https://quickcapture.arcgis.com

Create exceptions in the ArcGIS Server settings

Note: 
Only administrators are able to perform the following workaround.

1. Log in to the ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory.
2. Click Home > system > handlers > rest > servicesdirectory.
3. In the Services Directory page, click edit.
4. In the Edit Services Directory page, for the AllowedOrigins field, type the following URL.

https://quickcapture.arcgis.com

5. Click Save.

6. Repeat Steps 3 through 5 using the following URLs.

https://www.arcgis.com

https://www.arcgis.com/apps/quickcapture
