Last Published: April 25, 2020

Error Message

When attempting to geocode, the following error is returned:

"Error calling unlink for file ...\[filename].ixs
Returned error code 13"

1. The reference shapefile was updated, but the geocoding index was not updated prior to geocoding.

2. The house number fields in the reference data may contain negative values, typically -1. This may be how TeleAtlas represents a 0 in the house number fields, LeftFrom, LeftTo, RightFrom, RightTo.

Solution or Workaround

  1. Rebuild the geocoding index.

    For more information on how to rebuild the geocoding index, refer to ArcView GIS product documentation Chapter 5: "Adding street addresses and other locations to maps".

    Help menu > Help Topics > Find tab. Type in 'geocoding' and look for the listing entitled, 'Setting a theme's geocoding properties'.

  2. Remove the negative value from the house number fields.

    A. Select the records where:

    [field] = -1

    B. Multiply the selected records by -1 in the field calculator [field]* -1.

    [field]* -1
