ArcGIS Pro ERROR code 400, Unable to delete item. Delete protection is turned on. Bad syntax in request

Error Message

When attempting to overwrite an ArcGIS Online hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Pro, the following error message is returned:

Accessing the View log shows the following error:

Cause

The hosted feature layer has the delete protection setting enabled.

Solution or Workaround

Before overwriting the ArcGIS Online hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Pro, disable the delete protection setting.

  1. In ArcGIS Online, navigate to Content > My Content, browse to and click the hosted feature layer to open the item details page.
  2. On the item details page, click the Settings tab.
  3. Under the Delete Protection section, uncheck the Prevent this item from being accidentally deleted check box.
  4. Click Save.
