ArcGIS Field Maps: The data couldn't be read because it isn't in the correct format

Last Published: June 19, 2024

Error Message

Attempting to log in to the ArcGIS Field Maps app fails and returns the following error message:

Error:
The data couldn't be read because it isn't in the correct format.

Cause

The ArcGIS URL site domains are not authorized to access a network or are not recognized as secure connections. This issue is due to an organization's internal proxy block or firewall configuration.

Some organizations set up proxy servers to filter and control network traffic. Proxy blocking restricts access to specific domains or content based on the organizations' predefined criteria.

Firewalls also block unauthorized access according to predetermined security rules. Therefore, if the ArcGIS URL site domains are not authorized to access the network or are not recognized as secure connections, users cannot sign in to the ArcGIS Field Maps app.

Solution or Workaround

To resolve the error, contact the organization's IT team to grant access to the ArcGIS URL site domains by incorporating domain exceptions. Refer to PDF: Domain Requirements for ArcGIS Online for more information.
