ERROR
When running a feature analysis tool in ArcGIS Enterprise Map Viewer, the analysis fails and returns the following error message:
Error: GPEXT_018: The remote feature service <URL> exceeds the limit of 100,000 features. Create a hosted feature service to analyze large data.
This is a known limitation when performing analysis on a referenced feature service containing more than 100,000 features. Referenced feature services must be completely retrieved before analysis can be performed in Map Viewer and are constrained by a limit of 100,000 features. This limitation also applies to ArcGIS Living Atlas layers, which are always accessed as referenced services. As a result, the analysis fails if the feature layer data exceeds this threshold. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Supported data for spatial analysis tools for more information.
To analyze large datasets, publish the feature layer as a hosted feature service. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Publish hosted feature layers for instructions.
In Map Viewer, zoom in or pan to adjust the map extent and reduce the number of features included in the analysis. In the tool’s pane, expand Environment settings and select Display extent from the Processing extent drop-down menu to limit the analysis to the current map view.
Alternatively, apply filter expressions to the feature layer to include only the features of interest in the analysis. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Create a filter for instructions.
ArcGIS Pro supports analysis of datasets with over 100,000 features. In ArcGIS Pro, perform the necessary analysis using the appropriate geoprocessing tools, then share the feature layer as a referenced feature service.
