An unexpected error occurred while unpacking files in ArcGIS Enterprise

Error Message

When attempting to install Esri products, the installation fails, and the following error message is returned:

Error:
An unexpected error occurred while unpacking file(s). Error code: -2147467259

The following is a non-exhaustive list of products that return the error message:

• ArcGIS Pro (including extensions such as ArcGIS Data Interoperability)
• Portal for ArcGIS
• ArcGIS Server
• ArcGIS Data Store
• ArcGIS AllSource
• ArcMap

Cause

The account installing the software does not have read and write permissions on the specified installation folder.

Solution or Workaround

Assign read and write permissions to the account installing the Esri product using the workflow provided.

1. Right-click the installation destination folder and select Properties.
2. In the <folder_name> Properties dialog box, select the Security tab.
3. Under Group or user names, click Edit....
4. In the Permission for <folder_name> dialog box, select the usernames or groups running the ArcGIS Pro installation.
5. Under Permissions for <user_name>, uncheck the Read and Write check boxes in the Deny column.
6. Click Apply.

Note:
Alternatively, create a new folder or select a different folder as the installation destination folder.
