Attempts to add data from an Excel or CSV spreadsheet to a Business Analyst Online project returns the following error:

Subsequently, all uploaded data is missing after logging out and logging in again.

This error can occur if a Business Analyst Online project is corrupted due to the uploaded spreadsheet.

Uploading data with inconsistent formatting in the Excel or CSV spreadsheet such as the usage of special characters, symbols, or incorrect data in fields that do not support the data type, for example, non-numeric values in numeric fields, can corrupt the Business Analyst Online project. For more information on best practices when formatting a table, refer to ArcGIS Help: Formatting a table in Microsoft Excel for use in ArcGIS.

The following image is an example of a table with inconsistent formatting where non-numeric characters are used in a numeric data type field.

Solution or Workaround

To resolve this issue, re-create the Business Analyst Online project by following these instructions:

  1. Retrieve the backup copy of the BAO project from ArcGIS Online by navigating to Content My Content tab. Under the Folder section > select BA-Application Data
  2. Create a new Business Analyst Online project and import the desired content from the backup copy retrieved from Step 1.
  3. Proceed to import the data from an Excel or CSV file with properly formatted tables.

For more information on importing Excel files, refer to ArcGIS Help: Import an Excel file.
