Error Message

When attempting to export map services, the following error is returned:

 Access denied. Output directory is inaccessible, requests with return type as URL fail.

Cause

This issue may occur when the arcgisoutput directory parameter is incorrectly configured. The arcgisoutput folder is a necessary component in the ArcGIS Server site.

Solution or Workaround

To resolve this issue, edit the service properties in ArcGIS Server Manager. Follow the instructions provided below:
  1. Log in to ArcGIS Server Manager.
  2. In the Services page, click the desired service.
  3. Navigate to Parameters.
  4. Under the Specify Output Directory section, set the Output Directory to the default directory. Ensure it matches the site output directory. For example, if the site was installed by default in C:\arcgisserver, the output directory would be C:\arcgisserver\directories\arcgisoutput.
