EPS parser is unable to parse this file

Error Message

Adobe Illustrator 8 will not open ArcMap generated EPS files. The following error message is displayed:

"The EPS parser is unable to parse this file."

Cause

There is an incompatibility of Illustrator 8 with ArcMap.

Solution or Workaround

• Option 1: Upgrade to Adobe Illustrator 9.x or later. This is available through an Adobe distributor.
  
  
• Option 2: Import ArcMap's Portable Document Format (PDF) and Computer Graphics Metafile (CGM) formats to Illustrator 8.
