Description
In ArcGIS Pro, when using a dynamic text overlay to display map time in an animation, the map time may sometimes be inaccurate or remain static while the animation is playing.
Below is an image of a GIF file showing how this playback might look:

Cause
- Dynamic text is text is referencing a time property that is disabled.
- The Time tab playback is being used instead of animation playback.
- The animation is not time-enabled.
Solution or Workaround
Below are ways to confirm each cause of this behavior and the corresponding solutions:
- To dynamically display time in an animation, a dynamic text tag with type="animation" or type="mapFrame" can be used and the property startTime, endTime, or time to display the time. If the corresponding time control is disabled, the dynamic text does not display.
Note:
The property "time" corresponds to both Start Time and End Time. If either control is disabled, the dynamic text does not display.
- To identify if a given time control is disabled, check the Animation Properties and the Time section of the keyframe. Alternatively, after animation playback has started, the time controls are mirrored in the Current Time section of the Time tab.

- Remember that Time tab playback and Animation tab playback are not the same. Running the Time tab playback or the time slider does not update the information in the dynamic text overlay.
- If there is no change in the animation, it is possible that a time-enabled animation was not created, or that the data used is not time-enabled. The Time section of the keyframe in Animation Properties shows whether time is enabled.
Note:
Open the timeline and press Ctrl + A to select all the keyframes in the timeline to easily see if the time section is marked as Ignored.

- If time is enabled, it is possible that the distribution of events in the time range is too sparse, or the length of the keyframes is too long, making it appear as though the animation is not playing.
Reviewing the potential causes outlined above likely allows the map time dynamic text to update correctly in the animation. Below is an image of a GIF file illustrating how this playback might look:
