Frequently asked question

Does the Business Analyst labor force data apply to where people live or where they work?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

When running a Summary/Demographics Report for Labor Force by Industry and Occupation Profile, the data is based on where people live. This report is derived from the Esri Demographic Data and can also be found in the attribute tables of the Demographic Layers in the table of contents.

Labor information for where people work (also called 'daytime population') can be found in the Businesses and Facilities layers in the table of contents. The attribute table for the Businesses layer contains the number employees for each business, and also contains SIC and NAICS codes which indicate the type of business.
