Frequently asked question

Does GPT 3.1 support multi-lingual metadata - multiple languages in a single metadata document?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Yes, the ISO 19139 specification allows for a metadata document to present the same information in multiple languages. See the example below:
<LocalisedCharacterString locale="fr">agriculture</LocalisedCharacterString>
<LocalisedCharacterString locale="es">agricultura</LocalisedCharacterString>
<LocalisedCharacterString locale="de">Landwirtschaft</LocalisedCharacterString>

Publishing this metadata document to the GIS Portal Toolkit (GPT) works successfully.

After the document has been approved and database indexing has run, it is possible to search for the document using keywords of any language, as long as they are specified in the document.
