Frequently asked question

Do Enterprise Geodatabases Support SQL Server Snapshot Replication?

Last Published: November 18, 2020

Answer

ArcGIS enterprise geodatabases support SQL Server snapshot replication with caveats. Various operations, such as upgrading a geodatabase, unregistering a feature class as versioned, and moving a feature class in and out of load_only_io mode may attempt to make underlying changes that are not supported on objects that have been published for replication. In these cases, the operation fails. Replication must be removed or disabled before the operation can succeed.

For information on configuring snapshot replication, see the SQL Server Books Online.

It is recommended that geodatabase replication is used rather than SQL Server replication. For more information on configuring and using geodatabase replication, see the ArcGIS Pro Help. ArcGIS enterprise geodatabases do not support SQL Server merge or transactional replication.
