Frequently asked question

Do I need a score of 100% when geocoding?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

No, it is rare to get a match score of 100%.

The geocoding engine assigns a score to each candidate to determine how closely each one matches the address being geocoded. Each potential candidate is assigned a score from 0 to 100. Each address element is used to generate this score.

Possible Reasons for Low Match Scores
• Address elements are misspelled.
• The street name is misspelled or is incorrect.
• The street number of the address is missing or does not fall within the address range for the candidate.
• The street direction is specified in the reference data but not in the potential candidate.

Corrections in these areas improve the match score.
