DEPRECATION

OpenStreetMap Vector Basemap

Last Published: August 28, 2025

Description

In December 2024, it was announced that OpenStreetMap Vector Basemap will be moving to mature support, which means it will no longer be updated. Currently, OpenStreetMap Vector Basemap is being deprecated. However, it will continue to be hosted through 2026 and beyond.

In place of OpenStreetMap Vector Basemap, users of ArcGIS will have access to a new Open Basemap, built using Overture data. Open Basemap will be available on August 28, 2025. Both basemaps are expected to coexist until OpenStreetMap Vector Basemap is officially retired.

This change aligns with Esri’s strategic plans to integrate Overture Maps data into ArcGIS, following Esri’s recent membership in the Overture Maps Foundation.

Recommendation

No immediate action is required, but we strongly recommend that customers transition to the new Open Basemap. This will ensure they continue to receive the most current and accurate data.
