Description

With the upcoming release of ArcGIS Velocity for ArcGIS Enterprise (Windows/Linux) in May 2026, ArcGIS GeoEvent Server will be deprecated. The ArcGIS Enterprise 12.3 release, scheduled for Q2 2027, will include the final version of ArcGIS GeoEvent Server and its retirement will follow the same life cycle as ArcGIS Enterprise 12.3. This deprecation is driven by the addition of an ArcGIS Enterprise deployment option for ArcGIS Velocity, which delivers next-generation real-time capabilities, including improved performance and a modern user interface for enhanced usability. Beginning Q4 2027, with the release of ArcGIS Enterprise 12.4, ArcGIS GeoEvent Server will be removed.

In June, following the ArcGIS Enterprise 12.1 release, ArcGIS GeoEvent Server customers who have an active subscription or are current on maintenance will receive an ArcGIS Velocity Server license. Customers are encouraged to begin planning their transition to ArcGIS Velocity to ensure continued support and access to advanced real-time features.

Note that ArcGIS Velocity will continue to be available as an extension to ArcGIS Online and there are no changes to the deployment.

Recommendation

The final release of GeoEvent Server will be in Q2 2027 and its retirement will follow the ArcGIS Enterprise 12.3 lifecycle. To ensure continued access to real-time capabilities, clients are strongly encouraged to assess existing GeoEvent Server workflows, such as all inputs, analyses, and outputs, and identify equivalent or alternative capabilities in ArcGIS Velocity. Early engagement will aid in developing a transition plan that minimizes potential disruptions or risks.

Recommended action

  • Review and document current ArcGIS GeoEvent Server workflows.
  • Use the ArcGIS GeoEvent Server to ArcGIS Velocity Migration Guide to identify equivalent solutions and build a transition plan (to be published soon).
  • Upgrade the ArcGIS Enterprise environment to version 12.1 or later and begin using ArcGIS Velocity.
  • Create a plan to complete transition of ArcGIS GeoEvent Server workflows to ArcGIS Velocity before the retirement date.
  • Begin testing workflows and configurations both before and following the transition to ArcGIS Velocity. This approach allows clients to validate the requirements in the new architecture before transitioning fully to Velocity.

By proactively planning and engaging with Esri-provided resources, organizations can ensure a smooth transition to ArcGIS Velocity and maintain uninterrupted access to advanced real-time GIS capabilities.
