HOW TO

Customize locator styles to support suggestions

Last Published: April 26, 2020

Summary

Esri has developed and integrated the suggestion functionality in the World Geocoding Service that is available in arcgis.com. The capability has been extended to geocode services published with ArcGIS for Server 10.3 for locators created with suggestions enabled. ArcGIS 10.3 or ArcGIS Pro provide the locator styles that support suggestions. Information provided describes how to customize locator styles in 10.3 for supporting suggestions.

Procedure

If an older version of customized locator styles is being used, the locator styles can be edited to add the required properties and grammar for supporting suggestions, particularly for index building and searching for candidates.

Download the technical paper 'Enabling Suggestions on Custom Locators' to learn how to customize the locator styles to support suggestions.

For reference, the download also includes the US Address locator style file with the suggestion elements.
