Creating a spatial join on a layer that contains route events creates the wrong results

Creating a spatial join using a layer that is based on route events causes incorrect results.

Cause

This is a known limitation for layers containing route events.

Solution or Workaround

1. Export the layer to a shapefile or geodatabase feature class stored on disk.
2. Create the spatial join using the new feature class.
