Summary

In ArcGIS Pro we can create a dynamic feature class from an SQL database table using the New Query Layer dialog box. Any data updates in the SQL table are automatically reflected on the feature class.

Procedure

Prerequisites:

Latitude and Longitude columns should be present in the SQL table.

Workflow:

  1. In ArcGIS Pro, create a database connection with the SQL database.
  2. In the Catalog pane right-click Databases > New Database Connection > Add the Connection properties, select the database and click Validate.
  3. Navigate to the Map tab. Under Add Data select Query Layer.
The New Query Layer dialog box opens:
  4. In Datasource select the SQL database connection.
  5. For Name, provide a name for the query.
  6. Under Query add the following query:
SELECT *,geometry::Point(Latitude, Longitude, 4326) AS SHAPE From sde.table_name

Example:

SELECT *,geometry::Point(Latitude, Longitude, 4326) AS SHAPE FROM sde. TEST_1
  1. Validate the query and click Next.
  2. Select a Unique Identifier Field such as the OBJECTID.

creating the query

  1. Add the Spatial Properties and the SRID.
  2. Click Finish.

After following these steps, we can create a dynamic feature class in ArcGIS Pro. We can publish this feature class to ArcGIS Enterprise as a referenced feature service.
