Convert layout graphic elements to a feature class in ArcGIS Pro

Procedure

The following steps demonstrate how to migrate graphics from a layout into a map-based graphic layer for successful conversion.

1. Prepare the target map layer.
   1. Open the map view associated with the layout.
   2. On the Map tab, and select Add Graphics Layer.
   3. In the Contents pane, right-click the new layer and select Group. This creates a new group layer containing a sub-layer labelled Graphics Layer.
      • Note on logic: Using a group layer structure ensures that the pasted elements are correctly anchored within the map's coordinate space rather than floating as independent page elements.
2. Transfer the graphics from the layout to the map.
   1. Switch to the layout view.
   2. In the Contents pane, right-click the specific graphic element, for example., a line graphic, and select Copy.

3. Return to the map view.
4. Right-click the new group layer in the Contents pane and select Paste.

3. Execute the conversion.
   1. Open the Graphics to Features geoprocessing tool.
   2. Set the Input Graphics to the specific graphics layer where you pasted the elements.
   3. Select the appropriate Graphics Type, for example, polyline, point, or polygon.
      • Technical constraint: If the layout contained mixed shapes, ensure you only paste and convert one geometry type at a time to maintain data integrity.
4. Specify the Output Feature Class name and location.
   1. Uncheck Delete graphics after conversion to keep the graphics in the map view if needed.

2. Click Run.

The layout graphics are now converted into a standard feature class, complete with spatial coordinates, and are ready for use in any other ArcGIS Pro project
