CONNECT on Tru64 to Oracle 8i fails with '/arcexe83/bin/dbi_oracle: /sbin/loader: Fatal Error: cannot map'

Trying to CONNECT to an Oracle 8i database on Tru64 fails with the error:

Cause

The ArcInfo executable DBI_ORACLE fails to find the Oracle library libclntsh.so.8.0 located in $ORACLE_HOME/lib.
