Summary
Instructions provided describe how to concatenate two fields into one, so they can be symbolized using Unique Values with a single field.
Using the Get Data for ArcPad tool in ArcMap to check out data to ArcPad, uses the symbology from ArcMap. ArcPad does not support the symbology type Unique Values, many fields. However, it does support symbology for Unique Values with a single field.
Procedure
The following steps are two different procedures to be completed in ArcMap before checking out the data to ArcPad.
- Option 1
1. Add a new field to the attribute table.
A. Click Options in the table where field will be added.
B. Click Add Field.
C. Type the name of the field.
D. Click the Type drop-down arrow and specify the field type.
E. Set any other field properties.
F. Click OK.
2. Right click on the new field and select Calculate Values.
3. Change the Type to String.
4. Enter in the following syntax:
Code:
[F1] & Space ( 1 )& [F2]
Note:
Select your desired fields for F1 and F2
5. Click OK to calculate values.
6. Symbolize the layer with Unique Values for a single field using the field just created.
- Option 2
Use Select by Attributes to create the combinations:
1. Add a new field to the attribute table.
A. Click Options in the table where field will be added.
B. Click Add Field.
C. Type the name of the field.
D. Click the Type drop-down arrow and specify the field type.
E. Set any other field properties.
F. Click OK.
2. Use Select by Attributes to select the combinations needed.
Note:
For example, there are two fields that need to be symbolized using unique values. (Referred to as F1 and F2). F1 has values that are either A, B, or C. F2 has values that are 4, 5, or 6. Create a query for each combination.
3. Right click on the new field and select Calculate Values.
4. Assign the selected combination a unique identifier, such as A4.
5. Clear selected features, and repeat steps 2 and 3 for the remaining combinations.
6. Symbolize the layer with Unique Values for a single field using the field just created.
