Description

Following the release of Chromium 151, a defect has been identified that causes applications built with the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript to render incorrectly on some Android devices.  The issue causes the map to appear mirrored diagonally across the view.

This defect affects applications built with the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript, including ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS Instant Apps, ArcGIS Map Viewer, and custom applications developed with the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript.

The issue has primarily been reported on Samsung devices running Android 16.

Chromium-based browsers are affected including:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge

Solution or Workaround

The development team has confirmed that this issue is caused by a Chromium defect on Android 16 and is outside of Esri's control.  Vote on the following Chromium issue to help communicate its impact to the Chromium team:

Map rendering corruption in Chrome on Android 16

Workaround:

Change the device's ANGLE graphics backend in Chrome to use Vulkan.

  1. Type chrome://flags into the browser address bar.
  2. Search for ANGLE.
  3. Locate Choose ANGLE graphics backend.
  4. Change the setting to Vulkan.
  5. Restart the browser.

The change is applied per browser installation and must be performed manually by the user on the affected Android device. Web applications built with the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript cannot modify browser graphics backend settings programmatically.
