How To: Check All References of Computer Hostname for License Manager

Summary

The license manager checks several locations for the hostname. Performance can degrade when the hostname of the computer has changed without the license manager being reinstalled. In this situation the 'old' hostname may still be referenced in several locations.

Check ESRI_LICENSE_FILE and/or LM_LICENSE_FILE.

To check environment variables on NT, click Start > Settings > Control Panel > System and select Environment tab.
To check environment variables on Windows 2000 click Start > Settings > Control Panel > System and select Environment tab.
Check the *.lic files located under \program files\esri\license. There will be several .lic files corresponding to each individual feature. Also check to see if there is a license.dat located under \arcexe80\sysgen. Both of these files will reference the hostname:

Access the NT registry: click Start > Run. Type regedt32. Find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on the local machine window and navigate to:

\SOFTWARE\ESRI\ArcInfo\Workstation\8.0\LICENSE_SERVER
