Frequently asked question

Can a map template be based on another template?

Last Published: April 25, 2020

Answer

A map template can be based on another template (.mxt file). This entails opening an .mxt file within ArcMap and performing a 'Save as' using a new name, or the existing name followed by the .mxt extension. If a template is associated with a map and is in .mxd file format, a new template (.mxt file) cannot be created from it.
