PROBLEM

Auto logout from the ArcGIS Survey123 app

Last Published: January 2, 2026

Description

This article addresses an issue in the ArcGIS Survey123 app, where users are unexpectedly logged out during field operations, particularly in areas with poor or no connectivity. A workaround is provided to maintain login sessions and ensure uninterrupted data collection in offline environments.

Cause

Some older versions of the ArcGIS Survey123 app may contain bugs that cause users to be automatically logged out, especially when the device loses internet connectivity or attempts to reconnect intermittently in low signal areas. One of the known defects related to this issue is BUG-000128933.

Solution or Workaround

To prevent the ArcGIS Survey123 app from logging you out unexpectedly, follow these steps:

  1. Update the App.
    • Ensure that you are using the latest version of the ArcGIS Survey123 app. Older versions have known issues related to session persistence.
  2. Use Flight Mode for offline stability.
    1. Log in to the ArcGIS Survey123 app, when in a strong internet connection area.
    2. Switch your mobile device to Flight Mode (Airplane Mode) and disable Mobile data/Wi-Fi, before entering areas with no or poor connectivity.
    3. Continue using ArcGIS Survey123 as normal. The app remains logged in and functions correctly in offline mode.
    4. After returning to an area with stable mobile data or Wi-Fi connectivity, disable the Flight Mode.
    5. Open ArcGIS Survey123 and send all collected survey responses.

This method ensures the app doesn’t attempt to re-authenticate during unstable connectivity, which is the primary cause of auto logout.
