PROBLEM

Attributes from a joined table and the feature labels on a map do not automatically update

Last Published: April 26, 2020

Description

Joining two tables appends attributes from one table onto the other based on a common field. With this join, users can reference fields from the joined table in label expressions. In some cases, changes to attributes in the joined table do not automatically update labels on a map.

Cause

When attributes are modified with the attribute table open, the changes are not always automatically refreshed and thus, the edits are not reflected.

Solution or Workaround

There are two options for refreshing the table and labels to reflect the same information.

Option A: Close and reopen the attribute table.

1. Make the desired changes in the joined field of the attribute table.

2. Close the attribute table.

3. Reopen the attribute table to view the updates.

Option B: Reload the table cache, and refresh the map document.

1. Make the desired changes in the joined field of the attribute table.

2. To refresh the values in the table, reload the table cache by clicking the Table Options button > Reload Cache.

3. To refresh the labels on the map, refresh the map document by navigating to View > Refresh.
