Last Published: April 25, 2020

Description

ArcMap crashes or stops responding when geocoding a table with 1 million records using the USA and USA_ZIP4 address locators from StreetMap Premium North America NAVTEQ 2014 Release 1.

There are two bugs associated with this behavior, resulting in the following problems:

• BUG-000082007: When using the Geocode Addresses tool, the tool stops responding and returns the following error:

"ERROR 999998: Unexpected Error.
Failed to execute (GeocodeAddresses)."

• BUG-000082003: When geocoding from the Table of Contents in ArcMap, ArcMap crashes.

Note:
The behavior does not occur at version 10.2.2 or with smaller tables.

Cause

The cause is unknown.

Workaround

  1. In either ArcMap or ArcCatalog, enable background processing from the Geoprocessing menu > Geoprocessing Options.
  2. Launch the Geocode Addresses tool from ArcToolbox > Geocoding Toolbox to geocode the table with the USA or USA_ZIP4 composite address locator.
