Description
With collaborations, you can extend the reach of your GIS content by seamlessly sharing maps, apps, layers, and more with other organizations. Collaborations are based on a foundation of trust between participating organizations and are typically motivated by common goals and initiatives.
However, when setting up a collaboration and sharing content from one organization to another, sometimes you are prompted for credentials from the originating organization even though you are a member of a collaborating organization, as shown in the following image.
Cause
There are a few possible causes for this:
- Items are being shared as references
- When setting up the collaboration workspace and choosing the option to share items as references, the following message is displayed: "Feature layers and views are accessed live by collaboration participants and are not copies. You must grant collaboration participants access to the layers and views in the originating portal."
- Items are not shared publicly from Portal
- Even if items are being shared as references as noted above, you will not be prompted for credentials if the item is shared publicly in the originating Portal organization.
Solution or Workaround
To resolve this issue, try the following:
- Set the collaboration workspace to share items as copies instead of as references.
- However, map and image services, layers, and views can only be shared as references in a collaboration.
- Hosted feature layers, hosted feature layer views, and referenced feature layers with sync enabled can be shared as copies with other distributed collaboration participants.
- Share items publicly from the Portal organization, or, if that is not possible, create an additional account in the Portal organization and provide the credentials to those who will be accessing the item from ArcGIS Online.
- Store viewer credentials with the collaboration workspace to allow participants to view services without signing into Portal:
- Only available in ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8 and newer
- Only available in Enterprise-to-Enterprise distributed collaborations, not available in collaborations with ArcGIS Online
