Description
The Locate tool in ArcGIS for AutoCAD does not work and/or returns the following error:
"Unable to use this location service."
Cause
ArcGIS for AutoCAD is not able to access the ArcGIS World Geocoding Service since the service updated to HTTPS from HTTP.
Solution or Workaround
ArcGIS Online switched to using HTTPS for its geolocation service and this broke the connections in ArcGIS for AutoCAD.
If using version 370 follow these steps:
- Open ArcGIS for AutoCAD.
- Add a server connection to the following server: https://geocode.arcgis.com/arcgis/services
- Close ArcGIS for AutoCAD.
- In Windows File Explorer, navigate to the following location: C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Esri\ArcGIS for AutoCAD\1.0\Locators
- Open the .agl file with Notepad.
- Replace the url in the file with the following: https://geocode.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/World/GeocodeServer
- Save the file.
- Open ArcGIS for AutoCAD and verify that your locator is working once again.
If using version 400 of ArcGIS for AutoCAD, use these steps:
- Open the locate pane.
- Select the Add Locator button near the search box.
- Add the following locator: World Geocoding Service
