BUG

ArcGIS Field Maps mobile application crashes when trying to access web maps created using ArcGIS for Excel

Description

A stability issue has been identified when attempting to access web maps in the ArcGIS Field Maps mobile application that were originally generated via the ArcGIS for Excel add-in. The current workflow involves mapping the .csv data with latitude and longitude coordinates, adding it as an Excel layer, and utilizing the “Share | Export” function to create the web map. Although the export process completes, the Field Maps application consistently crashes upon opening these specific maps.

Cause

The bug lies in web maps created using ArcGIS for Excel. If these web maps are opened in an ArcGIS Enterprise portal, they load successfully in the Map Viewer, however, when trying to open the same web map in the ArcGIS Field Maps mobile application, it fails and the mobile application crashes.

Workaround

As a workaround, follow these steps:

  1. Open the web map created using ArcGIS for Excel in the ArcGIS Enterprise portal Map Viewer.
  2. Save the web map in Map Viewer.
  3. After that, the web map can be successfully opened in the ArcGIS Field Maps mobile application.

The workaround at this time to stop Field Maps from crashing is to navigate to the ArcGIS Enterprise portal and save the web maps after each update in ArcGIS for Excel.
