PROBLEM
ArcGIS Enterprise portal user types and add-on applications may expire one day earlier than the expected date shown for licenses in My Esri.
For Portal for ArcGIS license files (.json) generated from My Esri prior to March 30, 2025, licenses are set to expire at 12:00:00 AM GMT on their expiration date. When these licenses are imported into the ArcGIS Enterprise portal, the expiration date is converted to the local time zone of the Portal for ArcGIS installation. This conversion can result in licenses expiring a day earlier than anticipated depending on the time zone where Portal for ArcGIS is installed.
Example:
Consider a scenario where a Portal for ArcGIS license file is generated from My Esri, including user types or add-on licenses that expire on May 1, 2026. This expiration date is recorded in the license file as May 1, 2026, at 12:00:00 AM GMT. Upon importing into the ArcGIS Enterprise portal, the expiration date is adjusted to the local time zone of the installation. For instance, if the Portal for ArcGIS is installed in the Pacific Standard Time (PST) zone, which is seven hours behind GMT, the expiration date will be converted to April 30, 2026, at 5:00:00 PM PST.
With the March 30, 2025 My Esri update, expiration dates have been modified to 12:00:00 PM GMT, allowing for adequate time zone adjustments. This change ensures that all licenses will expire on their intended dates.
For existing users encountering this issue, the resolution involves editing their Portal for ArcGIS license file in My Esri without altering any entitlements. For steps on how to edit Portal for ArcGIS license files in My Esri, please review the knowledge article: Edit license files in My Esri for Portal for ArcGIS 10.7 and later versions. After making these adjustments, users should import the updated license file into their ArcGIS Enterprise portal.
